Fresh off of the easel and finally finished ! I began this painting last autumn when the fruit on my kumquat tree was first ripening. The season ended before I finished the painting and now bearing ripe fruit again the timing was perfect to finish.
Part of my in progress series of pandemic paintings, this one addresses the long wait through winter, or periods of rest, restoration, and healing. Especially poignant as I complete my first quarantine diagnosed with covid, this painting juxtaposes the present with what is to come through the incorporation of ripe fruit with blossoms of another plant (currently in flower Meyer Lemon.) Together provide an opportunity for appreciation of the present as well as hope and anticipation of the new or next ripening fruit.
